Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Individuals who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) can present with a wide range of speech and language deficits ranging from non-existent to profound depending on the location and severity of the injury. They may have difficulty in broad variety of communication skills from motor planning deficits, to trouble processing language, as well as word retrieval problems. AMDi has several communication solutions to address those needs. The most prominent is the Smart/128 static augmentative communication device. The Smart/128 allows for the use of visual scenes which provide the individual with contextual cues to aid them in determining the possible content of the messages located in the communication overlay as well as helps form connection to vocabulary, routines, and concepts that may be difficult for some individuals with TBI. In addition many of the pre-made, pre-recorded Smart Ease activities have been constructed in a visual scene format and cover communication situations such as community outings, home vocabulary, and elementary school level national content standard academic concepts. If individuals require the additional need to scan, have a strength in auditory and need auditory prompts, or have additional motor deficits that significantly impact their motor movements, AMDi also offers the Smart/Scan Pro augmentative communication devices with come in an 8 or 32 grid configuration.
